Our diocese has a rich history and vibrant community dedicated to serving the Catholic faithful in Puttlam District of the North-Western Province in Sri Lanka .

As the Diocese of Chilaw, we are committed to foster a deep and abiding faith, nurturing spiritual growth, and providing support and resources to on the basis of parishes, schools, various apostolates and other ministries. Our mission is to spread the teachings of Jesus Christ, promote unity within our diverse community, and serve those in need with compassion and love.

Founded in 1939, our diocese has been a beacon of faith, hope, and charity for generations. With 53 parishes, 242 Church Communities, around 150 Diocesan Priests, more than 100 Religious and about 350 000 Catholics, and numerous apostolates, ministries and outreach programs, we strive to embody the values of the Gospel in all aspects of our work.
